1. Check Please by Jonathan Rand
Dating can be hard. Especially when your date happens to be a raging kleptomaniac, or your grandmother's bridge partner, or a mime. Check Please follows a series of blind dinner dates that couldn't get any worse -- until they do. Could there possibly be a light at the end of the tunnel?
2. 44 Hours by Charles Zito
Victor and Ian meet and hook up on Friday night. Come Sunday evening they are still together. Ian thinks there is something here that’s worth pursuing; Victor is worried about a hidden truth. They’ve had 44 intense and beautiful hours... but will they make it to 45?
3. Misfortune by Mark Harvey Levine
Ian Thal, playwright and theater critic, gives a brilliant review of Levine’s mini-masterpiece: “ A dark comedy about fate, coincidence, chance, and (possible) vengeance, and the mysteries that connect a table at a small Chinese restaurant with the factory where fortune cookies are made. It's fun and suspenseful, with joke after joke even as the tension continues to ratchet up to the conclusion. ”
4. Mrs Jansen Isn’t Here Now by Steven Korbar
A woman is totally disinterested in a man she meets at a bar... until she learns he's recently left the priesthood.
5. Saguaro by Philip Dawkins
Dating can be pretty brutal. When Wren has exhausted all of her options to find a mate, she turns to.....get ready for it....plant life!! While at a wedding for her bosses, Wren meets prickly, stable, and dry bachelor: Saguaro. Saguaro is the perfect boyfriend at first, but Wren soon learns that her new romance is not bug-free. Saguaro is a witty and funny spectacle of dating gone wrong.
6. Off the Map by Rich Orloff
In a very cold place, a penguin helps a lost couple find direction. "Clever comedy. Consistently funny dialogue.” Columbus Dispatch
